Team
Everest '03 members complete the Capitol 10K
Members of the Team Everest '03 expedition joined over 15,000 people
to complete the 25th annual Capitol 10K, carrying the TE'03 banner
- and its important message - from start to finish. Michael Healer,
50, of Austin placed first in the Wheelchair Division by completing
the race in 35:04.0. John Calvin, Jr., 48, of Kyle, Texas placed
second by completing the race in 54:16.5.
By Jonathan Osborne, Austin-American Statesman, April 8, 2002:
Austin celebrated a quarter century of running
Sunday as more than 15,000 of the city's weird — and not-so-weird
— shuffled, sprinted and strolled across the Congress Avenue Bridge,
marking the start of the 25th annual Capitol 10,000. It's still
the largest 10K road race in Texas. And even though some of the
wackiness has waned, the Capitol 10K is still a little crazy after
all these years. Over the past 25 years, the race grew from 3,500
entrants to 28,000 at its peak. Each year people wind their way
through the 6.2-mile downtown course.
