Gary Guller participates in panel discussion on
"Focusing on Abilities...Not Disabilities"
The Annual Independent Living Conference for the State of Texas
(SILC) was held in Austin on February 17 & 18. The SILC and associated
organizations are dedicated to assisting everyone to live in the
most independent manner possible. The SILC Network was developed
as a result of the needs of a diverse group of people who want to
maintain their independence for as long as possible.
The theme “Focus On Abilities” is consistent with the goals of
Team Everest '03. Gary was part of a panel discussion of individuals
with varying disabilities who have demonstrated the principles of
self-help, self-determination, and personal empowerment. Other presenters
included Kim Powers-Smith, noted public speaker, Regina Blye, Miss
Wheelchair Texas 2003 and third runner up for Miss Wheelchair America,
and morning news producer for KVII Pronews 7 in Amarillo.
